Would you like to keep your body in top condition when you go away? There's nothing to stop you working out while you're on holidays. So, don't pack just your summer clothes, take your sportswear and training schedule also, then you can work out while on holiday!
Training without a gym
Of course, you won't be able to take your favourite Basic-Fit club with you on holiday. But that doesn't mean you can't work out while you're away. As well as cardio fitness, you can also do strength training outside the gym. For example, you can work out using your own body weight. With a training schedule that includes half an hour of sit-ups, push-ups, planks and squats three times a week, you can keep your body in good shape. Do you prefer cardio training? You can go running more or less anywhere. Be aware of the heat when you're on holiday. For example, run early in the morning and take a bottle of water with you to prevent dehydration.
Visit a fitness club at your holiday destination
Another option, of course, is to see if your holiday destination has a gym. Many hotels and resorts offer sports facilities. Or, go to a local gym. Many gyms welcome tourists with open arms. And it's also a great way to meet locals. Heading for Spain, France, Luxembourg or Belgium? It's also a good idea to watch your diet while you're away
It's a bit of a no-brainer, but if you don't want to gain weight on holiday, we recommend not only continuing your training, but also keeping an eye on your diet. For example, have a glass of water with your meal instead of that tempting beer or wine. Remember to eat plenty of protein, fruit and vegetables too. And... try to hold back on the dessert buffet!
Or... simply choose to take a real holiday
If you don't exercise for one or two weeks, you won't lose all your newly built muscle mass or fitness. In fact, a short period of rest can even be good for your body and help it recover from weeks or months of intensive (strength) training. That way you will notice – when you start training again after your holiday – that you are much fitter and your training could really take off. Your muscles will be stimulated again and have the impetus to develop.
