A lot of people wonder where other people get the time to work out. If you have a social life, work full-time or study, or perhaps have children to look after, you will hardly have any spare time left. But hold on, it is definitely possible to lead a busy life and still make time to work out. In fact, exercising gives you more energy and increases your fitness levels. How do you combine working out and having a social life?

1. Make sure you are working out efficiently
You don't need to go to the gym every day. It is more important to work out regularly and for every workout session to be as efficient as possible. It is better to do a forty-five minute training session a few times a week than a few hours only once a week. Choose a routine with a number of exercises that you can repeat. That way it becomes more manageable.

2. Work out in the morning
If you have a busy social life, it can sometimes be difficult to get to the gym in the evenings. This is when last minute distractions happen, such as after-work drinks or an unexpected telephone call, and before you know it you’re late for your class or haven’t got the energy to do a proper workout. That’s no excuse! Plan to do your workouts in the morning: that way they are done and dusted and it won’t matter if your plans change in the evening. You can then enjoy the rest of your day without having to worry about a specific group class or training session.

3. Work out with friends
Next time you meet up with a friend, why not suggest a workout session in the gym. You can meet up, catch up and work out at the same time.

4. Take the stairs or go for a walk in your lunch break.
Making other small changes to your daily routine can also be very helpful. For example, stay fit by walking up the stairs instead of taking the lift. And instead of sitting in the canteen during your lunch break, go for a walk. How about a plank-challenge with your colleagues? A one-minute plank every hour helps strengthen those muscles. Every little helps!
In order to successfully fit your workout around your social life, it must feel natural. This way, it becomes part of your life instead of an annoyance or something that you don't know how to make time for.
