All passionate cyclists know that during the cold months of winter (which are right around the corner), it’s much harder to work up the will to go out for a ride on our bikes. It gets dark much earlier and the weather isn’t very forgiving, which might drive you to wait until it gets warm again to go cycling, but that means you’ll be waiting until spring. You’ll be out of shape by then. Luckily there are other alternatives. There are fitness exercises you can do at the gym when it’s too cold out, to make sure your cycling game not only stays the same, it gets better!

Fitness exercises for cyclists
One of the most popular fitness exercises for cyclists is the stationary bike. At Basic-Fit we’ve taken it further with a complete training program using indoor cycling at the gym. Hop on the newest stationary bike model, and together with your class, you’ll take a thrilling ride filled with obstacles. It’s a great way to burn calories and stay in shape while riding a bike. The classes are run by certified instructors, and they’re renewed every three months, so you won’t have time to get bored. Here you can find information about our group classes for indoor cycling (virtual cycle).

Remember that at any of our gyms you have open access to stationary bikes, which you can use at your own pace for as much time as you need.

Strength training for cycling
If you want to get the most out of indoor cycling, it’s highly recommended that you do strength training at the gym to keep your muscle mass in shape. Your strength workout should focus more on repetition than on weight. You want to prioritize strong toned muscles over large ones, because the latter makes you heavier, which, in cycling, works against you.  Pay special attention to your lower body, especially your quads, calves and your bottom. Ask our virtual trainers for some tips, as they have a long list of exercises that train the muscles you use in cycling. Our virtual bootcamp class works well for cyclists who want to stay in shape but don’t want to ride outside.

Fitness exercises to complement your cycling workout, in tandem with indoor cycling, make sure you’re on top of your biking game, even in the winter!
