Just working out your abs won't do the trick!
If it was only as easy as just putting in a few weeks working on your abs! Unfortunately, you can't burn fat in a specific area. That's why it's important to make sure you combine your abs exercises with cardio training (running, cycling, rowing etc.) as well as a healthy, balanced diet.
A varied training regime
Follow a varied training regime in which you combine abs training with cardio training. Make sure you're not always doing the same exercises, instead alternate them. This makes the training more fun and more effective, because you are training different muscle groups. Good exercises to train your abs include crunches, sit-ups and planking. There are loads of variations of planking, so there's no chance of getting bored!
How often do I need to train to get the result I want?
If you want to have a toned stomach, going to the gym three times a week would be a great start. If you set aside quarter of an hour to exercise your abs at home two times a week on top of this, your abs will certainly know about it! Make sure you do enough repetitions. Training is most effective if you can just manage the number of repetitions. Clearly, this will differ from person to person. But, what we would say is: challenge yourself.
Don't forget about your eating habits
As stated above, diet is really important. You won't get a toned stomach through training alone, so make sure your diet is healthy. And, above all, don't eat too much. Because if you take in more calories than your burn, you can train as much as you like, but you'll never get a flat stomach!
